A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL...

To be Known and to Know

There is an identity deep within each of us that has been assigned by God. We have each been created in the image of God. He knows our name, our thoughts, our tears, our cries. He knows what we need and what we desire. He knows when we lie and when we sit. And because He has created us with a specific identity  and a special purpose, He has designed a community of believers - His church - where we are to fully know our identity and to know Him. Chinook Winds Adventist Academy is one of those special places that God has designed for His children to be known and to know God. We are grateful that you have chosen to entrust your children with us this school year so we can share these important truths with your children. May you also, as parents, be assured of your great value in the eyes of God and be confident that He knows you intimately! May it be your desire to know Him too! "I ask—ask the God of our Master, Jesus Christ, the God of glory—to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing Him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what it is He is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of this glorious way of life He has for His followers, oh, the utter extravagance of His work in us who trust Him—endless energy, boundless strength!” Ephesians 1:16-19 (The Message Bible)

ANNOUNCEMENTS

REPORTING YOUR CHILD'S ABSENCE:

Parents, when your child(ren) will be absent please go to the school website (cwaa.net) and look for the “Report an Absence” link (found on red border at top of homepage).  Fill out the form and submit. Simple and quick … thanks for using this new and efficient method!

MICROWAVE LUNCH REMINDER:

Each classroom only has electrical capacity to run one microwave at a time. Our electrical system was built in the 1980‘s, before microwaves were used in schools! As such, there can be a long line-up for heating lunch food which results in inadequate time for students to eat. Ultimately we want our students to be able to enjoy all of their 20-minute lunch time as they eat their food! Please consider sending pre-heated “hot" lunches in a thermos (these can be purchased at a very inexpensive price) or lunches which do not require heating at all. Thank you for helping us make our lunch experience great!

WINTER WEAR GEAR:

Elementary students are required to be outside during recess at all times unless the temperature registers -25 Celsius (with windchill).  Winter weather is approaching so please be sure your child has proper wear.  Warm jackets, boots, gloves, hats, snow pants, etc.

STUDENT NAME IN UNIFORMS:

Please make sure to put labels in your child‘s clothes or put initials on them to minimize lost items.  Reminder that all students in grades 5 to 10 must wear a PE gym uniform and these items should have names in them as well.

AD MAZING COUPON BOOKS:

The ADmazing coupon books are selling very well. There are a number of people requesting more books, however, we have given out all we have!  Mr. Fowler has ordered more books but they have not arrived yet.  As soon as they do, an email will be sent home.

Those who still have a book, but do not want to sell it, please return it asap so others can sell it.  Our goal is to raise $2000 for the PE department.  All books and money must be returned to the front office by September 28.  After this date, any outstanding books will be charged to your account.

Remember!  The prizes for selling the most books are:  Elementary - a Samsung Tablet and Secondary - a Bose Bluetooth speaker.

Thank you so much for supporting our PE Department!

POLICE CHECK FOR VOLUNTEERS:

We want to remind all parent volunteers that CWAA requires police check clearance prior to volunteering at CWAA.  If you require a police check letter, please contact the office.  Thank you for your dedication and support of our school!

PRAYING PARENTS:

Praying parents will resume this Thursday, September 20, after morning drop off in the school lobby.  For those who are new, Praying Parents is a small group of parents, friends and pastors that meet every Thursday morning  to pray for our school. Please come and join us for prayer.  It has been a blessing for the past seven years to pray and praise God for our school and see Him work!

TERRY FOX RUN:

All parents, students and interested community members are invited to join CWAA in participating in The Terry Fox National School Run Day at CWAA on Thursday, September 27. Be part of one of the biggest displays of solidarity against cancer on the planet…while setting an example of compassion, fostering school spirit, encouraging physical activity, and having fun!  Pledge sheets will be sent home tomorrow, September 18.  Our goal this $2500.00.  We need parent volunteers for this event who have a valid police check on file.  If you can help please contact Pr. A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAPLAIN...
A Small Gesture of Kindness Goes a LONG Way:

The great Russian writer Leo Tolstoy tells of a time that he was walking down the street and passed a beggar.  Tolstoy quickly reached into his pocket to give him some money, but he did not have any.  Tolstoy immediately turned to the man and said, "I'm sorry, my brother, but I have nothing to give. The beggar brightened and said, You have given me more than I could have asked for--you have called me brother."
In I John 3:17 the bible shares "If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God‘s love be in that person?"
What powerful & true words.  How often we live in our small bubble, believing that we could never make a difference in someone's life, or worse could care less of our brother and sister around us, yet God IS calling us to INTENTIONALLY be a blessing to those around us-ALWAYS.
Chinook family let us intentionally and daily ask God to help us to be a blessing to those around us, by so doing we show people they are valued, and by encouraging others we too are encouraged and strengthened.  Have a blessed week as you remember you ARE an instrument for JESUS.

In Christ,
Pr. Paul Antunes
