UPCOMING SEMINARS ON THE IMPACT OF GAMING AND SOCIAL MEDIA ON YOUTH:

The negative effects of excessive gaming, social media and technology use are well documented. But one group is especially at risk - teenagers. Addiction is a real danger as adolescent brains are most susceptible to the chemical overload that comes with continued screen overuse. Video game addiction is real. A tsunami is coming that parents, educators and health professionals are not prepared for. On January 22, 2019, from 7 - 9 pm, Cam Adair (leading expert and pioneer on video game addiction) will be presenting an evening on “How Gaming and Social Media are Designed to Keep Teenagers Hooked” at the University of Calgary. Then on January 23, 2019, from 10 am - 4 pm Cam Adair will be presenting a workshop "Video Game Addiction Masterclass” at the University of Calgary. Registration opens November 26. To register or learn more information, go to the Sinneave Family Foundation at www.sinneavefoundation.org.

PRAYING PARENTS:

"Praying Parents" will meet this Thursday, Nov 29.  This group gathers in the lobby at the beginning of the school day.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHAPLAIN...

Connected to the Vine Part 2 ...

As we revisit Jesus’ message to His disciples of the VINE today, imagine with me Jesus  beckoning you with His hands, saying come in and hear this.  Jesus had just left the upper room with His disciples, in which they had eaten the Passover Supper, and instituted the Lord’s Supper.
Now as they are walking down the cobble stone streets, with torches lighting the way they quickly exit the city gates towards the trail that meanders to Gethsemane, a place where so many times before they had gone to find solace.
It’s a calm night as they traverse the trail, yet on Jesus’ brow is an intensity and weight they had not yet seen.   Closing in on the garden, Jesus abruptly stops by some grape vines and in that moment sears their minds with one of the most powerful symbols of connection, they would never forget.
As the light of the torches shine on the vines He begins: “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.” Remember this is a dying man’s last words, this can’t be small talk.   Jesus in this moment states that He is the TRUE vine, He is not some offshoot but He is the only vine, and He is truly God, and isn’t it amazing that in this same sentence Jesus ties Himself to the Father by stating that the Father is the Vinedresser.
Powerful, Jesus and the Father are ONE in the whole process of connecting with us, they do however have different roles.   Jesus being the vine, and the Father being the vinedresser.  It’s easy for us to understand Jesus the vine and the importance of us connecting with Him always, but what is this about the Father being the vinedresser?   Let’s explore this more next week, as we unravel this beautiful lesson Jesus gave to His disciples and us today.  As we close I want you to see Jesus – “The only way”  reaching out and speaking these words to you right now,  “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

Your Brother in Christ,
Paul
