ALBERTA EDUCATION ACCOUNTABILITY PILLAR SURVEY:
It‘s that time of year where Alberta Education is seeking your input about the education we are delivering at CWAA! From January to the end of February, Alberta Education will be conducting its annual “Accountability Pillar Survey”. The Accountability Pillar Survey assesses various aspects of quality; student outcomes, provincial assessments of student learning, community engagement and satisfaction, school experience, etc. Within the next few weeks, all CWAA parents will receive a survey from Alberta Education in the mail. In February, CWAA students and all teachers will be completing their surveys online at school. All surveys are anonymous. In addition to English and French, the parent survey is available in Chinese, Punjabi, Arabic, Blackfoot, Cree, Korean, Spanish and
Tagalog. Your participation in the survey helps provide important information on the quality of education your child is receiving at CWAA, so we encourage you to return your survey promptly. Thank you for your participation in this important process!

UPCOMING SEMINARS AT U OF C ON THE IMPACT OF GAMING AND SOCIAL MEDIA ON YOUTH:
The negative effects of excessive gaming, social media and technology use are well documented. But one group is especially at risk - teenagers. Addiction is a real danger as adolescent brains are most susceptible to the chemical overload that comes with continued screen overuse. Video game addiction is real. A tsunami is coming that parents, educators and health professionals are not prepared for. On January 22, 2019, from 7 - 9 pm, Cam Adair (leading expert and pioneer on video game addiction) will be presenting an evening on “How Gaming and Social Media are Designed to Keep Teenagers Hooked” at the University of Calgary. Then on January 23, 2019, from 10 am - 4 pm Cam Adair will be presenting a workshop "Video Game Addiction Masterclass” at the University of Calgary. Registration
opens November 26. To register or learn more information, go to the Sinneave Family Foundation at www.sinneavefoundation.org.

THE GOD WHO IS CLOSE TO US Hiding deep in the basement shelter of a large church was a grief stricken father with his 6-year-old daughter near him as bombs fell on the city of London that night during WWII. Unfortunately the girl's mother and two brothers had died in one of the bombings led by Hitler's army just a short time before, and now the father and daughter were laying in the shelter while the earth above shook with the terrible bombings. London was a mess and this frightened little girl asked her dad: "Daddy, hold my hand." "Everything will be ok baby, now try and get some sleep." A few moments later another bomb fell overhead and she said: "Daddy, I'm afraid! Please hold me!" After holding her again, he said: "Now, my dear, try to get some sleep." As the bombs continued to fall the little girl
finally looked up and said: "Daddy, I will only be able to sleep, if I know your face is turned my way." In this world so full of suffering and pain that bombards us often, we can have the assurance of a present God who listens to our pleas and turns His face our way. When God spoke to Moses through a burning bush, He stated that He knew what His people were going through: "Then the Lord told him, “I have certainly seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries of distress because of their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering." Exodus 3:7 NLT My brother, my sister God IS close to us and more than that He has promised that He is with us. He is so close that He can hear when we seek Him in prayer. King David once said: "Go away, all you who do evil, for the Lord has heard my weeping. The Lord has heard my
plea; the Lord will answer my prayer." Psalm 6:8-9 NLT Differently from other theories that present God as an absent, unreachable being, who is indifferent to our feelings and experiences, the Bible presents an eminent God, who is with us and who not only shares but experiences our joy, sadness and fear. A God who is always available and approachable whenever we call on His name: "For what great nation has a god as near to them as the Lord our God is near to us whenever we call on him?” Deuteronomy 4:7 NLT Our God is not one who hides from His children as presented by some philosophers, but He is a God that is so close to us that we can touch Him through prayer; and feel his loving arms around us in our daily needs. Dear Friend I want you to have the assurance that you have a God who cares about you and is facing you even now. Never forget
that His hand is not concealed, and unable to save you; neither is His ear deaf, unable to hear your request. Why not seek Him right now? Why not share your heartache with Him in this moment through prayer? As you reach out towards heaven with your prayers do not forget that "prayer is the key in the hand of faith to unlock heaven’s storehouse where are treasured the boundless resources of omnipotence”. EGW STC 94, 95 Pastor Paul Antunes
